Making Your Shopping On A Bridge
Making your shopping on a bridge! Clearly, there are plenty of famous monuments in Venice! Between the Bridge of Sighs, the Doges Palace, St. Mark's Square, the Grand Canal, the Academy of paints and all the small churches ... with the city's area which is not very high we can always find something interesting on every street corner. No stress credit, simply stroll through its streets and at the end of the day the vast majority of attractions has been found. It was during one of these walks in the small streets, we came to a place relatively empty of tourists, we made a stop to drink hot wine and buy a typical Venetian hat as souvenir. A few streets away, we found the crowd which led us to the Rialto. We had already seen this bridge by vaporetto on the Grand Canal. Its form triangle-shaped or circumflex (it looks like a broken bridge) and its small arches make it easily recognizable among all. This bridge, when it was built, played a significant role because it was in the midst of economic activity in the city, near the fish market and where bankers made their business. They really need a bridge there! The first bridge was wooden ... you know it's in the history of the 3 Little Pigs ... but the time and water blew over the bridge and it finally flew. Several buildings ensued and history does not tell us if one of them was in straw. The fact is that many stories are attached to the history of bridges failing under the weight of residents. Clearly, the pillars were not the right solution, especially since the bridge was a place of passage and a place of intense activity since shops were settled above . Moreover, it should be high enough so that the boats could sail below. 1588, after many vicissitudes, the construction of the bridge begins! This bridge is an architectural success because it is very heavy and is still standing when it is supported on stilts! Completely built in marble, it had the ingenuity to propose three lanes for traffic jams created by passers-by stopping to go shopping! But this is walk from there that we realize the work it is. Because if you are not prevented, we do not realize that we walk on a bridge. Indeed, it is in continuity with the street and only a few steps to climb and descend indicate his location. The only downside that I see concerns the crowd, dense, often blocking the passage, and quality of shops located above. When we think that there during Renaissance you could find perfumers and it is now down to vulgar tourist items ...
