The mergers and acquisitions (M&A) world experienced a significant reduction of deal activity in 2008, after consecutive record years for 2005, 2006, and 2007. During this hot transaction stretch, private equity and operating companies snapped up companies left and right. As the credit markets froze in 2008, it became very difficult for private equity firms to secure lending sources in order to fund acquisitions.
