There are several of tactics in the beginning and it also depends on the settings in the world you play. If it has paladins then you could consider creating a statue right after upgrading iron mine, timber camp and clay pit, and start early farming with paladin. This tactic is more suitable in worlds with bonus villages because you can farm only abandoned, barbarian, bonus villages in the beginning.
